Description
Scaffold Components – Double Lanyard Harness
The Double Lanyard Harness is a full-body fall-arrest system designed for workers who need to work at height and move between anchorage points while maintaining continuous attachment. It is particularly suitable for scaffolding, construction, maintenance and other work-at-height applications.
The double-leg lanyard design allows the user to move from one anchorage point to another by connecting one hook before disconnecting the other. This helps maintain attachment while navigating scaffold structures, platforms and other obstacles.
Key Features & Benefits
- Full-body safety harness designed for work at height.
- Double-leg lanyard for maintaining attachment while moving between anchor points.
- Includes scaffold hooks for suitable anchorage points.
- Energy-absorbing lanyard helps reduce forces generated during a fall.
- Adjustable straps help provide a secure and comfortable fit.
- Suitable for scaffolding, construction, maintenance and industrial applications.
- Designed for use as part of a suitable fall-arrest system.
- Available in configurations manufactured to recognised South African and international safety standards.
Double-Lanyard Design
The double-leg or Y-shaped lanyard is particularly useful when working around scaffold frames and other structures where the user needs to move between anchorage points.
One lanyard leg can remain connected while the second leg is moved to the next suitable anchorage point. This provides continuous connection during transitions when the equipment and anchorage system are used correctly.
Scaffold Hooks
The harness is designed with scaffold hooks that allow connection to suitable anchorage points. Depending on the specific model, scaffold hooks may feature large gate openings and locking mechanisms designed for secure connection.
Always ensure that the hooks are connected only to approved and suitable anchorage points and that the harness manufacturer’s instructions are followed.
Energy-Absorbing Lanyard
A shock-absorbing or energy-absorbing lanyard is designed to help reduce the forces transmitted to the user during a fall-arrest event.
For example, South African fall-protection products in this category are available with energy absorbers and double scaffold hooks, with some models complying with SANS 50354, SANS 50355, SANS 50361 and SANS 50362.
Important: Exact lanyard length, maximum user weight, hook specifications and certification depend on the specific harness model supplied. Always check the manufacturer’s product label and certificate before use.
Adjustable Fit
A properly fitted harness is essential when working at height. Depending on the model, adjustment points may include the chest, shoulders and legs, allowing the harness to be fitted securely to the wearer.
Some harness models use corrosion-resistant steel buckles and UV-resistant polyester webbing for durability in demanding working environments.
Suitable Applications
The Double Lanyard Harness is suitable for work-at-height applications including:
- Scaffolding erection and dismantling
- Construction
- Building maintenance
- Industrial maintenance
- Structural work
- Installation work
- Elevated platforms
- General work at height
It is especially useful where workers need to move around scaffold structures and transfer between suitable anchorage points.
Important Safety Information
A safety harness is personal protective equipment (PPE) and must be selected, fitted, inspected and used correctly.
Before every use, inspect the harness, webbing, stitching, buckles, hooks, connectors and energy absorber for signs of damage, wear or deployment. Equipment that has been involved in a fall or shows damage should be removed from service and assessed or replaced according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The harness must be connected to a suitable, approved anchorage system. Do not assume that any scaffold member is an approved fall-arrest anchor point.
Users should be appropriately trained in work-at-height and fall-arrest procedures, and the complete fall-protection system must be suitable for the specific work environment.
